Your Lyte-Lock battery cover is designed to neutralize battery acid at the source. However, when you are dealing with acid is it always necessary to be prepared.
When removing and/or replacing a Lyte-Lock cover, in case there is lingering acid present on or around your battery:
- Make sure to wear safety goggles, gloves, and protective clothing when working with Lead Acid batteries.
- Remove the cover and place in a plastic bag.
- Add a small amount of baking soda to neutralize any residual acid that may be present. If the reaction continues, add more baking soda until the reaction is complete.
• This chemical reaction will produce carbon dioxide, salt, and water.
• This process should be performed outside or in a well ventilated area.
- Dispose of in your trash.
- It is always a good idea to check with you local Waste Management facilities to see if there is any further treatment that needs to be performed.
